## Fractions

## Apps Required:

**Learning Objectives:**

1) To explore and learn about fractions in a fun and creative learning environment

2) Enable students to create online tutorials in a creative way to showcase their learning

## What to do?

Don't students love everything more when it is a game or challenge? Often times we are faced with only one iPad in our classrooms to work with. The first two apps are meant to be used as a 'game'. Students can either race the clock and compute fractions as quickly as they can. Or if you have multiple iPads in your room you can split your class into teams and 'race' other teams to encourage teamwork and quick thinking. Here is a link to a teachers blog who did this challenge in their classroom. (The above apps are merely suggestions as they offer quick mental math questions, keep in mind that this type of lesson can be used for nay subject area within math)

The second part of this lesson plan is to use iMovie to challenge students to take what they have learned, in this case fractions, and create an online tutorial to showcase their learning. A great example of this can be seen here!
